FIRST MILES!
Hey POTM Challenge Participants I have created a little logo for you all to use! Feel free to snag it and use it on your blogs!!! Check mine out on the right upper corner.
I was so excited to get up and run this morning and add my first miles to POTM!! I haven’t been able to run alone early in the morning because of the darkness, but with the time change I was soooo ready! I woke up at 6am and did a wonderful 4 mile tempo run!
- Distance: 4.0 miles
- Duration: 33:48
- Mile 1: 8:28
- Mile 2: 7:55
- Mile 3: 7:20
- Mile 4: 8:45
- The Burn: 414 calories
I miss speedy workouts of my own! I know I would do them with my cross country team, but I was more focused on their goals then my own. It’s nice to be on track with training!! I only have four more weeks until my Santa Barbara Marathon :).
After my run I made a delicious bowl of Pumpkin Oats in my new bowl.
- 1/3 cup oats, soy milk, water
- Half banana
- 1/3 cup pumpkin
- 1/2 tbsp flax seed
- pumpkin spice + vanilla
- Sprinkle of mixed nuts
- Spoonful Homemade Pumpkin Butter (this Pumpkin Butter is AMAZING)
I also made an egg for some extra protein!
Loving the LIGHT!
QUESTION: Why do we have Day Light Savings??? I have heard so many different answers thought I would hit all of you up for some answers :)

I have no clue why we have daylight savings time butI'm glad it's there! I love being able to run in the early mornings again!! And I love the POTM button! Will be putting it on my blog for sure :)
I have no idea either! It doesn't make much sense in my opinion.
Hmmm oats. :)
Glad you had a good run!
Great Logo!!
I think we have daylights savings time to consume energy or maybe something about farming..lol!
I was always told it was to reduce energy consumption. Makes sense to me except in the winter you'd need more lights on and such at night. But it makes sense for the summer.
awesome logo and i'm 99.99% sure that dst was a way to conserve energy wayyyyy back in the day. i'm also pretty sure that it's not effective nowadays compared to what it was back when tj (thomas jefferson) proposed it) because now in the summer we pump so much energy into our AC in the summer etc
It's to make the most of the daylight hours.
Daylight Savings Time originated in 1918, when the US government instituted it to conserve energy toward the war effort.
Ah, the random information you pick up as a budding history professor :)
Just wanted to say I love the POTM Turkey!
kinda wish we didnt' have daylight savings, I like it in the AM, but not at night!!
yeah for POTM!! can't wait for bootie buster time too
I think Ben Franklin invented it, I learned that from a movie though
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_savings
"Although an early goal of DST was to reduce evening usage of incandescent lighting, formerly a primary use of electricity,[7] modern heating and cooling usage patterns differ greatly, and research about how DST currently affects energy use is limited and often contradictory."
It also says that now only 3.5% of electricity use is from incandescent lighting, so the effect is minimial on overall electrical usage.
"Modern DST was first proposed by the New Zealand entomologist George Vernon Hudson, whose shift-work job gave him leisure time to collect insects, and made him aware of the value of after-hours daylight.[2] In 1895 he presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society proposing a two-hour daylight-saving shift,[18] and after considerable interest was expressed in Christchurch, New Zealand he followed up in an 1898 paper.[19] Many publications incorrectly credit DST's invention to the prominent English builder and outdoorsman William Willett,[20] who independently conceived DST in 1905 during a pre-breakfast ride, when he observed with dismay how many Londoners slept through a large part of a summer day.[21] An avid golfer, he also disliked cutting short his round at dusk.[22] His solution was to advance the clock during the summer months, a proposal he published two years later."
Sort of interesting! I always thought it was to help farming, but it says that farmers don't like it. Hmmmm.
Wow, good info below in commments regarding DLST. I've always wandered myself. Im loving it so far; more time to work out in the morning. lol
For those who don't know; DST was invented for California so that we can worship the sunlight for as long as possible and find peace & calm watching the beautiful sunsets. Just sayin..
Mmmmmm pumpkin butter. That sounds good.
We don't have Daylight Savings Time here in Arizona, but I used to love getting the extra hour in the Fall, when I lived elsewhere. Great turkey logo!
I have miles to add to POM, but I think I am doing something wrong with the google doc, it never saves my name...
