Day One

My first day on my Healthy “Detox” was a success! I did battle a major caffeine headache around 4pm, but as soon as I went to cross country practice and ran 4 miles, I felt much better!

TODAY’S EATS

One large salad with, spinach, apples, grapes, chopped nuts, and veggies. For a dressing I mixed EVOO and Balsamic Vinegar.

A side of Wasabi dried garbanzo beans, LOVE THESE!

and a brown rice cake with Barney Butter.

After work today I headed to cross country practice where we ran an easy 4 miles. They have another meet tomorrow so no hard running today. In between my practice and kickboxing I had a Cherrie Pie Larabar! I haven’t had one of these in a while. They are perfect for the detox, real ingredients.

I then killed some time at Barnes and Noble. I read up on some healthy benefits of a HEALTHY detox. I love what the preface of this book said, “ A Detox can help your body get back to being balanced…”

Kickboxing kicked my butt as always and I really didn’t have much of an appetite even though I knew I needed to eat. I made a quick bowl of Corn Puff Cereal with a nanner and Barney Butter

I also had a small glass of Chocolate Silk Milk! Can you believe that this has NO SALT (sea salt which I can have) and NO ADDED SUGAR!!!!

Alright friends, because I have a Cross Country Meet tomorrow and have to leave work early, I have to go in extra early. Which means I need to be in bed right NOW! I am going to take my new Magazine….

See you nice and early! Nite Nite!

Great job on the detox! I'm honestly surprised chocolate Silk has no added sugar, I guess it still just has too much for me.

Good luck!

Hey Bobbi! Don't think that I haven't been reading your posts. I most certainly have but unfortunately haven't been commenting too much just cause it's been crazy busy. But I ALWAYS love your posts! And if you're interested, I have sonogram pics on my blog :-)

Good job on the detox!!

I love chocolate silk too, but I thought it was sweetened!? I could only see the label online but there was some evaporated cane sugar on there in the version I saw. Is yours different? Is there a sugar free one? I hope so!

Lara said...

Barney Butter has added sugar in the form of Evaporated Cane Juice which is just a fancy name for sugar.

Lara-

Evaporated cane juice is a healthy alternative to refined sugar. While both sweetners are made from sugar cane, evaporated cane juice does not undergo the same degree of processing that refined sugar does. Therefore, unlike refined sugar, it retains more of the nutrients found in sugar cane.

Just wanted to clear the Silk confusion.....

Still doing research..

I disagree about the differences in sugar vs evaporated cane juice. Yes the processing levels differ but when you come down to it there really is no difference. That pretty much goes for all sweeteners even the "natural" ones.

Lara said...

Ultimately of course it is up to you how strict you want to be with your "detox" but in the name of nutrition and science I think it is important to know the real facts. Your body doesn't know the difference between all those other seemingly "less processed" sweeteners. You would have to eat tons of them to get any of the minerals that *might* still remain.

Lara-

I think you give some great points here! Thank you so much :) I will have to re-evaluate what I want to do about that...

I have to say I am a little disappointed in all of the detox and fasting from certain food items for short periods of time. I feel it is not an example of a long term way to live a healthy balanced lifestyle. I have always liked reading your blog in the past- but I just don't support these quick fix ways to detox your body. If you eat a healthy balanced diet, you are acting as a better role model for athletes- especially as a coach to teen girls.

Dear Anonymous....

thank you so much for your honesty. I too agree that a healthy balanced lifestyle is the best way to live, but I also don't think that it is healthy to be controlled by anything in life, such as coffee. The main reason for my detox is for my health and has been authorized by my doctor to help me with my tummy issues.

I don't think that this detox diet is just for anyone but if you want to clean up your diet and learn more about your body, I think it's a great tool.

This is NOT just a quick fix, I am hoping that it helps my overall health in the long run, giving me a new prospective on what my Body needs.

I see where you are coming from. Thanks for sharing and replying (rather than deleting which you could have!) I can definitely understand your perspective and will be interested in seeing how you feel at the end. Best wishes.
