Weekend at the Tree Top Inn
Heads up this is a long post but worth it!!! Please excuse any grammatical errors, I am a little exhausted!
This weekend was something that the Hubby and I needed very much :) Time alone to laugh, eat, and much more ;) Hubby and I are two of the busiest people I know and although we hang out a lot with each other, it was nice to share some “quality” time alone.
Hubby bartered with a guy who owns a cabin up in Big Bear Mountain. Hubby did a website for him and exchange, he is letting us use his cabin for 7 nights. We took full advantage of the free get-away and celebrated our two year anniversary this weekend.
Our little cabin was not so little, it was two bedroom and two floors! When we first walked in we felt right at home.
It was so nicely decorated and had the perfect amount of coziness.
We even had the cutest little deck.
The master bedroom was sweet, not our taste but it reminded us of a bed and breakfast.
The bathrooms were adorable as well.
First things first, I poured us a glass of red and sat and relaxed on the porch.
Then moved straight into the cute little kitchen where Hubby and I made dinner.
We decided to make a His and Her Pizza, simple and delicious!
I set the table, while Hubby rolled out the dough. I brought a bottle of Smoking Loon, it was ok, not my favorite.
My half was covered in veggies; squash, zucchini, red and yellow bell peppers, and baby tomatoes from our garden. Hubby’s was full of meat and cheese!
It was a wonderful combination!
We also brought dessert! We picked up four mini cartons of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. These are great if you want a little bit of everything, Mint Chocolate Cookie, Strawberry Cheesecake(yummy), Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Cookie Dough.
We stayed up late watching Law and Order (we have the seasons on DVD). The next morning I woke up early, that DAMN internal clock! Hubby caught me in all my morning glory :)
I made us Whole Grain Peanut Butter and Banana Pancakes, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit. Twas a wonderful way to start our day :)
We headed out the the Village for the day. The Village is a large shopping area, mostly stored with knick knacks that Hubby and I would never buy so it was mostly window shopping. Except for a store called Stupidiotic, this place was sooooo fun!
Hubby and I played in this store for a long time!
Check out this fork, one minute is a normal size fork, and then…. go-go-gadget it becomes way longer!!!
Then there was the water bottle with a phone holder, a runner's dream :)
A wrist band that holds a water bottle….
Head over to their website, their stuff is hilarious! Our next stop was to the local Arcade and we played some more!
We love acting like we are 10 again!
Our tummy’s started growling so we when on a little adventure to find food. At first we got a little lost but then found this small little hole in the wall eatery that wasn’t half bad. We ordered our drinks first because it was FLAMING HOT outside!!! I tried a new beer that is only served at this place on the west coast. It is called Leinenkugels, Sunset Wheat, my new favorite beer!
There weren’t too many healthy options so I went with the California Fresh Style Burrito with chicken, what could I say it did have FRESH in the name :)
Hubby of course had a burger with seasoned fries. My burrito was a lot like a Chipotle style burrito, white rice, black beans, and chicken. IT WAS HUGE, I ended up saving half of it.
Hubby and I made sure to save room for dessert. I think this by far is the most FATTENING thing I have had in a LONG time!! FRIED REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS!!! Hubby really wanted to try them so we split it but I only had half of one, they were good but a little to rich for me.
After all the shopping (I didn’t buy anything) we headed back to our cabin to relax before our “Fancy” dinner. I brought a few dresses and decided to wear an old favorite. I love the color and the back is my favorite part!
I know enough lovey dovey already, but it was our anniversary :)
TWO YEARS, WHAT WHAT!
The place that we chose for dinner was a local Italian favorite, Sweet Basil Bistro. I started the evening off with a glass of Chianti.
We were also given a basket of bread served with a pesto butter spread, Hubby was excited!
I decided to start my meal off with the soup of the day, Squash Bisque. This soup was quite delicious and more filling then I thought it would be.
For my main course I went with a whole grain pasta with pine nuts and pesto sauce. I ended up adding half a breast of chicken. I ended up not even eating half, my stomach gets so full so fast!!! I know that's a good thing but not on nights when I want to EAT!!!
Hubby ordered the Filet Minion stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese, it was to die for! He, of course, gave me all of his veggies :)
After dinner, we walked around a bit and I quickly got my appetite when I saw a local ice-cream shop that I went to all the time when I was a kid! I ordered a small cup of a new flavor of Dreyer’s, Maxx, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chunk!
It was so yummy, it had chinks of real peanut butter right inside the ice-cream!
We had such a wonderful evening together, I didn’t want the weekend to end.
This morning I woke up and made us a very interesting kind of French toast. I took the Arnold’s Thins that I had on hand and dipped them in an egg and milk mixture to make some pretty tasty French toast! I topped them with some fresh fruit to make them a little fancier :)
Over Breakfast, Hubby and I did a crossword puzzle that some friends made us as a gift for our Anniversary! This was too fun :) I then finished my book and then we headed home :(
We got home around 2pm today and I just vegged (I never do this, I know right?) I wasn’t ready to go back to reality. But after sitting on the couch watching “Clean House”, I was inspired to unpack and get things done for the week. I ended up going to kickboxing class tonight and picking up a few things from the market.
Overall, the weekend was amazing! Too short, as always, but it was wonderful to have some time to celebrate together. I can’t wait to celebrate 50 years together!!!
Another busy week is ahead here at NHerShoes, stay tuned for a fun
give-away, a review of “Making the Cut” (so far), more mini living room boot camps and much more!

I think it is always good for couples to get away and spend time alone. Being away together is different than being home. Glad you guys had a nice time.

Oh goodness how fun! And now you've still got 5 days left that you can use the cabin. Wheee!
Love the "excuse the spelling/grammar" disclaimer. Because ironically, there seem to be fewer spelling and grammar mistakes than usual.
Yes I know Anonymous I am not the best speller, guess I am better when I am tired :)

What a fun lover's weekend. Congrats on the 2 years! I kind of hate the smoking loon vino, and the Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat tastes a bit like fruity pebbles to me! :) WWR is just around the corner. EEK!!
