How About an AM Misto & SanDiego Update

Yes friends I have found my new love, Almond Milk Misto! A Misto, Cafe au Lait, is half steamed milk and half coffee. It is kind of like a latte, but instead of the espresso you use drip coffee, or in  my case French press coffee.

Check this site for the perfect procedure, which I’ve been following and it works perfectly: Stumptown Coffee Brewing Guide.

Almond Milk Misto

  • 1/4 cup of almond milk mixed with 2 tbsp of soy creamer steamed, or heated up in the microwave for one minute.
  • pour 8 oz of coffee in a mug
  • pour steamed AM on top

Voila! You have your self a tasty less caffeinated and less fattening drink.

I got a full 8 hours of sleep last night, which was soooooo needed! I can not really explain on here what has been happening with me right now. Last night I was so stressed about so many things. I love my family to death but right now, I am taking on many burdens that I sadly just want to run away, but then I remember how thankful I am that I have a family that is here even if they are tough to deal with sometimes. Anyways to make a long story short, I was not motivated to eat right or workout yesterday and I made it a point to go to bed early and rise at 5:45am to knock out a 5 mile run, my mission was accomplished!!!

Running Stats: 5 miles, 44 minutes, and burned a lovely 547 calories!

This was the longest and fastest run I have had sense Boston. I felt great, I actually got to run in the wonderful shorts VSX sent me to review! Did you know Victoria Secret has an active line? The shorts they sent me are their running shorts. They are so light and airy! I am usually not a big fan of running shorts, (you all know I love my running skirts) but I felt so quick and free in these, and no chafing!

I am going to love these shorts in the summer for sure! Please go and check out all the hot gear at www.vsx.com.

I then did Jillian's Shred, level 2! WOW that is so intense after a run, I ended up cutting out some of the cardio, but did all the strength and abs. I also did some walking planks, and worked out the IT Band with my foam roller. So many of you have been asking where to get the foam roller, I purchased mine at the local running store, but you can get yours at Target and it comes with a DVD of many ways you can use it! I try and do it at least for 2 minutes on each side but it’s a KILLER!

Then I made some Yummy Cinnamon and Vanilla French Toast Bites.

I mixed together 5 egg whites, 1/4 cup almond milk, pinch of cinnomen, 1 tbsp of vanilla extract and a handful of oats. Dipped two slices of Wheat berry Bread(5 grams of protein each) and grilled on the griddle. I topped the toast with 1 tbsp of TJ’s Cranberry Apple Butter and Naturally More PB with a drizzle of Agave Nectar.

With some sweet strawberries, still working on that 4 pound bag!

I am not sure if I mentioned this or not on here but I will not be participating in the SanDiego Rock and Roll Marathon at the end of the month, This was a hard decision to make, but seeing as the registration is over $100 we simply can’t afford that right now. Unless someone wants to sponsor me:)
I am still going to go down there and cheering my ladies Meghann, and Amanda on, maybe even run in it with them a little, but no race for me. I am trying to catch some local 10k and 15k races in the area, and will be doing the Fontana 1/2 again on June 6th! So for right now I am focusing on training for that race.

TSL UPDATE

Yesterday I wasn’t able to ride my bike to work, but I did manage to get a couple points.

  • 3 points all meals at home
  • 1 point washed dishes by hand instead of using the dishwasher!
  • 1 point for taking a shower with no lights

  • Total Points for Monday: 5

Megan was so kind to send me some links about composting check them out!

Some links that I found very useful:

These show how you can use a garbage can to make a compost bin, which might work if you are sharing a backyard.

http://tammysrecipes.com/garbage_can_compost_bin

This list cracks me up, but it is 163 things that you can compost (although I am not sure how accurate it is, because it says fish stuff. and just a note, you do not want to compost tomatos because they are too acidic):

Have a Terrific Tuesday!

great coffee idea - I still haven't tried almond milk.

I didn't know Victoria's Secret had workout stuff - those shorts are super cute.

Simple things like washing dishes count as a point? Serious?! Cool! I wash dishes ALL the time. Our dishwasher only gets used once or twice a month.

I Love your challenge!

awww man so sad you won't be running!!

ok and you won't like this but green experts say you are better to put a full load in the dishwasher than to do them by hand, it uses substantially less water

It's a bummer you won't be running the race, but I am glad i will still get to meet you. It's only a few weeks away!!

I can so relate to that feeling of so much going on! It's especially hard when you don't quite see the end in sight... running away starts looking like a good option! :)

My (current) favorite drink at S'bux is a soy Americano misto. So good. I'll have to try and make yours! It looks awesome!

I am going to have to try the misto! What a great idea!

Isn't a run the best way to get rid of stress and clear your mind?? I find it helps big time! I hope you feel better soon and the stress disappears!

I like the little toast bites too! Yum!

So sorry you won't be running San Diego, but I'm glad you'll be there! I'm running it (my first one!) and Jon will be there to cheer me on. Maybe we'll see each other there!

Also, thanks for sharing your struggles. I know many of us, including myself, really relate. Families can be a mixed blessing, especially when they're close by, and the stress can be overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes you have to just keep putting one foot in front of the other and try not to quit, like at the end of a long race. You'll be in my prayers!

Hi Bobbi! I've been reading your blog for a while and I am very inspired by your story! I left this post on Meghann's blog this morning and was hoping you wouldn't mind answering the questions, also. Your stories are actually pretty similar so here it is (literally I copied and pasted it but all the sweet words go to you also... you guys are all an inspiration to so many!)

Hi Meghann! (Bobbi)

I’ve been meaning on asking you something- I know you are a lover of running and I also know it helped you shed 30 pounds! I really admire your drive and dedication! I have a question for you..

I also love running because of how much it has helped me lose weight. When I used to see people running for miles at a time it used to overwhelm me because I need walking breaks every so often because it would literally hurt my legs and chest. A stretch and walking break always helped me keep moving. Well, I’ve noticed now that I’ve kept up with it more consistantly, I am also able to run without stopping and it doesn’t hurt (Thank God- knock on wood!) I’m so thankful and this has actually made me look forward to my runs more because i KNOW i can do it and ENJOY it at the same time. I always enjoyed it because of how it made me feel afterwards, but now I enjoy how I feel DURING the run. I know I might sound cheesy, but it really makes me happy and thankful that I’ve come this far. Was it always easy for you? Is this something normal to experience- that as you lose weight and do it more often, the running becomes easier? I know you’ve experienced falling in love with running and losing weight, also so that’s why I wanted to hear your side of the story. I would really appreciate it! Thank you so much for sharing your story and inspiring many!

<3 Nancy

Those shorts look great, I need some new summer running gear :)

This "no eating out" rule is hardcore, it's kicking my butt but saving my wallet :)

Damn! I am going to be out of town June 6th or I would have so ran with you! I didn't even realize there was a race in the area!

I was going to say that Melody's running San Diego. but she beat me to it! And I think that taking showers together (ahem if you're married) is another frugal tactic! hahaha

Glad you liked my links!

I hope the stress in your life settles down soon, Bobbi.

I will have to try your Misto idea, another thing I don't need to get from Starbucks :)

I'm sorry to hear you are going through a very stressful time. I'm glad you got some sleep, that always helps (and of course, it makes it hard to get sleep when you are stressed!).
I went to trader joes to get the cranberry apple butter and they told me they won't have it again til October. I was so bummed! I am going to call some other ones in the area and see if maybe I'll be luckier elsewhere. I really want it!

the french toast looks great!

i hope everything gets less stressful soon; feeling like that is no fun!

Cute shorts! I had no idea VS had an active line. Sometimes, we just need a day where we get a nice nights sleep.

Never tried almond milk!

And I had no idea about VS gym clothes. The shorts look cute and comfy!

I certainly didn't know that VS has an active line. Never would have thought :-) But you definitely look AWESOME in your shorts. They do look SO comfy.

I am keeping you in my prayers! Love you!

Nobel4Lit said...

I've seen the VS active line. I don't think their stuff is "must-have," but it looks fancy. I run in race T's and Target shorts, so I really have no business there. =/
