Need More Protein in Your Diet?! A Better Whey Review

I received a wonderful package last week of Better Whey of Life Yogurt.

When Kasey emailed me and asked me if I would be interested in trying their product I was super excited!  I have actually been trying to find more ways to get more protein into my DIET. I do not eat a lot of meat, I consider myself a FLEXITARION. So thanks KASEY!

“Flexitarianism is a semi-vegetarian diet focusing on vegetarian food with occasional meat consumption. A self-described flexitarian seeks to decrease meat consumption without eliminating it entirely from his or her diet. There are no guidelines for how much or how little meat one must eat before being classified a flexitarian.”Wikipedia Definition

Not that I don’t like meat, I just think that I can get my protein from a lot of other nutritious sources instead. Ok back to the Yogurt. I first tried the Acia Mixed Berry Flavor, and it was a little watery, I think because I didn’t shake it. It was still yummy! I couldn’t taste like a grainy protein powder in it, which I HATE. It was delicious!

Then I tried the Peach Mango Flavor, again it did not let me down! They have 5 flavors in all, I can not wait to try the rest!

15 GRAMS OF WHEY PROTEIN!!!

Is whey protein better than just eating high protein foods daily?

Wiki Answer:

Whey protein is better than other proteins because it has the highest Biological Value (BV) of any known protein. This means that the proportion of protein that is absorbed and incorporated into your body's proteins is higher from whey protein than from other protein sources.

Even though whey protein is the best kind, you can easily consume enough protein to meet your body's needs through other forms of protein, you just have to consume a bit more than you otherwise would if you were consuming whey protein.

FOR US ATHLETES!

It has long been known that people who exercise regularly need more protein than average. People looking to make their exercise work harder for them should be sure to include whey protein as a source of lean protein in their diets. Whey protein has been shown to be particularly helpful because it is the highest source of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) leucine, isoleicine, and valine. These BCAA’s help tone and build lean muscle. They also have been shown to promote more efficient recovery after exercise. Body builders and professional athletes have long known these benefits, but the benefits now translate to everyday active people.

So there you have it, it taste great, is good for you, now do you want to try some?! Well here is a coupon code for you to get yours today. Also I think there will be a give-away on my site in the near future:) I know most Whole Foods carry them for sure!

Hi Bobbi!

I finally got on the computer to catch up with your blog! It took me almost an hour and a half to read everything since last monday! :) Yesterday was a VERY high stressful day for me and guess what...I had my first BAD CRAVING! Once I realized I couldn't go to AKB I thought to myself "I want a quesadilla from Del Taco" but I ignored the craving and kept right on typing away at my paper! When I got home, Gerson had made a Trader Joe's Pizza so I ate what was leftover (a little more than 1/4) but put a lot of fresh tomato and pineapple on top. I had a side of my grand parisian salad and DIDN'T eat a Strawberry Mochi for dessert like I briefly thought about doing lol. The bad thing was that I ate after 9pm tho =/ it's just almost impossible with grad school sometimes! :( Anyhow, that's an update for your bloggers. I thank them for their support and encouragement! We should post some progress pics-what do you think?? I weighed myself yesterday morning but I was disappointed to say that so far, I haven't lost anything =/ I have to admit it was kind of discouraging but I will keep going because I WILL be a skinny bride! :) Thank you for EVERYTHING, Bobbi! You are a rare friend to come across in any lifetime. We'll have to meet up next week to discuss the health plan and more wedding stuff! I am in dire need of some yoga lol. Love you girl!

I am so happy someone has finally shed some light on to this type of diet. This is definitely me! I don't consider myself a vegetarian but do not eat red meat and very little poultry. I live on veggies and fish! I never really knew how to explain this but now that there is an actual name for it, I am thrilled.
Thanks so much for the info!

Bobbi - I would like to recommend the book The Flexitarian Diet by Registered Dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner. It provides more than 100 recipes and ideas for getting all the protein you need from plant based sources. It also provides weekly shopping lists and really great nutrition tips and advice. I have made many of the recipes and all of them have turned out to be delicious. I have also downloaded many more recipes from the author's website http://www.dawnjacksonblatner.com . You can get the book at most big box bookstores or online at amazon.com . I hope you get a chance to check it out because it has really helped me balance my diet.
