Going In For Battle

Morning beautiful people! I am so thankful for all of you, I hope you all know that. The blogger community is such an amazing place and I feel so blessed to have so many wonderful readers and friends NHerShoes would not be what it is today without all of you!!!! Ok I just had to get that off my chest :).

I had another night of terrible sleep! I woke up at 3:30am and couldn’t go back to sleep so I stayed up for an hour plus and watched some TV. I ended up falling asleep again around  5 and getting up at 7. I am hoping that I don’t feel exhausted all DAY! Needless to say I didn’t do yoga as planned :(

For breakfast I made Cranberry French Toast, one of my favorite combinations.

Instead of milk I used Rice Nog + 1 egg and two egg whites + Pumpkin Spice

Topped with Apple Butter, Honey and Cranberry Sauce.

We have a Holiday Lunch Party for my department at work today where we will be grubbing on some AMAZING EATS! Then tonight, Hubby and I have our work Christmas Party where I am sure we will EAT even MORE!! I am putting on my “SMART CHOICES” helmet and go into battle..let’s see how I do :)

Question: How do you make good choices when you know you will be served dinner instead of making it yourself?

That receipe looks awesome! Thanks for sharing! I think there is somthing in the air in Cali because the last two night I have also woken up at around 1:30 and can't go back alseep until after 3:30! Ugh! Hope tonight goes better!
And as always, at a dinner where I am fearful of some of the choices, I always go big on the item that is green! I fill up on the veggies no matter what they be! Good luck and have fun!

gaaah i hate insomnia! story of my life this semester.

at dinners where i'm not cooking i load up on salad stuff and greens. the rest of the stuff i take enough as though i'm trying it so i get to have lots but the main part of my meal is green

I keep myself in-check by fixing one plate of food and letting that be it. I do it for both appetizers and the main meal. If I fix a small appetizer plate with a few of my favorites, I don't feel cheated. Also, if I stick to one plate for the meal, then it forces me to carefully choose how I will balance calories.

Looks awesome! Thanks for the recipe! I so cant wait to try it. The holidays are super tough for smart eating. What I try to do is if Im at a party I make sure to not go hungry and then stalk the veggie tray and shrimp tray (if there is some there). I do let myself pick out 1 or 2 small treats though just so I dont feel deprived. Good luck!!!

Question for you - How do you cook your cranberries so they come out whole like that? They look amazing!

When I go into battle, I do the following: I don't go hungry. I try to eat a good-sized, healthy snack beforehand. Portion control is huge...I use the smallest plate available to me and only put on it things that I love and really want to eat. I try to eat as many of the healthy things availabe (esp. veggies and fruits)and allow myself a small treat which for me is usually a dessert. I also try to make sure I only eat things that are special to this time of year...I can have cheese and crackers at home! :) Have a super fun time at your party!

Oh delicious idea to use Egg nog instead of milk!! Yummy. I bet the Soy pumpkin spice drink would also be delicious.

I usually just try and breathe and deal with the fact that I have no control over what I'll be served, but that doesn't mean I have to go crazy and stuff myself. Maybe have a small snack beforehand so you don't go starving. Then have small bits of what looks good to you. And remember, you can always eat something small when you get home as well, if you don't want to go crazy on the food!

When I'm somewhere else for dinner I try to stay conscious of my hunger/full cues. This means drinking lots of water and eating slowly! I choose the foods that I really want - not just because they are there (like rolls or some other bland side dish). And I have FUN and realize that food isn't the only reason I'm there!!

ahh yes the parties..they use to really freak me out, but i think once I stopped feeling like food was out to get me I've done better. Now I just try to enjoy small amounts of things and I really do load up on veggies and fruit
