Wild West Relay Part II: Get Your Ass Over the Pass
Hope you all enjoyed part I of our crazy adventure!
So after our first six legs we were starved and found a little local Western Restaurant and got some good grub.
I ordered a veggie wrap filled with lot’s of peppers and onions.
Melissa was smart and brought in the Hummus from the car to add to our wraps.
I also ordered some sweet potato fries for the table, Holy YUM these were so good! I have never had powdered sugar on my sweet potatoes before, a true delight.
The Ladies!
After lunch we found a spot to CRASH!
Then we met up with VAN #2, so sad we didn’t get to hang out with these folks more, they all seem so fun!
I got to hang a bit with our lovely volunteer Carly, THANK YOU CARLY!!!
Before I knew it I was off for my second leg: 8.5 miles, 5 miles straight up hill!!!
This leg was intense, I was DYING but determined to run the whole way. Part way through I looked down at my Garmin and it said I was running a 13minute mile and I thought shoot I should just walk, but I knew I could do it!
When I saw my van come by I got super motivated even though I screamed at them saying, “THIS IS THE HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE”. Between the elevation, terrain, and hills I felt like a BEAST!
The last mile and a half was down hill and I sprinted hard, I wanted it to be over! I ended up running a 9:20pace which I was PROUD of!
I conquered the mountain!!!
I quickly through some fuel in my mouth!
While we are on the road we saw Van #2 again, love them!
I ate more food…I ate half this Probar that Amanda brought, the prefect amount of fuel for me.
It was getting late and our last runner of our second leg came in at midnight!! I was starved even though my stomach was feeling kind of yucky, so J-Light and I went in to the local restaurant that was serving runners a spaghetti dinner for $10!! The best $10 midnight spaghetti I have ever tasted.
We then headed to the Elementary School in town to sleep with 100’s of other runners in a classroom, this was an adventure!!!
I crashed so hard that when Melissa woke me up for our final leg, I was so confused at where I was!!! We only got three hours of sleep but I was ready to take it on! Here I am waiting for my last leg!!!!
My last leg was 6.7, very flat and little hills!! NO MORE HILLS!!!
It was crazy running on the highway!!!
Boston YELLOW!
I sprinted at the end of my leg and managed to run a 8:05 pace!!! When our last runner came in from our van we ran across the finish line with her strong!!
Done and Done!!!
BEAUTIFUL!
We waited for our last runner to come in from the other van and when she did we all crossed the finish line together and were so HAPPY!!!! 33 hours of running completed!!!
We then headed back to our hotel room to clean up a bit, and had a fun cocktail hour while we tried to figure out what to do next!
I enjoyed a Sangria for the first time, yummy will have to try to make these at home :). Oh I look a mess!
Julie and I ordered a pita platter, pita bread, veggies, capers and artichoke hearts. It was heavenly!
We then all went out for a celebration dinner!!! We heard Mazzola’s was a local gem so we gave it a shot!
The wait was forever so we just sat at the bar and ate! Don’t mess with HANGRY runners!
Jen and I split this amazing Pesto Chicken Pasta.
Captain and Co-Captain finally got to to chat about our experiences. Kristen is a sweet heart I am so glad we got to meet and that she helped put this whole thing together!!
I leave you with this last picture that shows our true hearts!!! RUNNERS WE ARE!
Would I do another relay race, HECK YA!! April Ragner here we come!

Looks like a ton of fun. I want to run a relay now!
Bobbi's amazing adventure! Props to sharing your great experience. I have to say though. That last leg on the highway with you wearing the yellow - reminded me of the smiley face (yellow) and Tom Hanks running the highway on Forest Gump. He was running.. and running.. and running.. Great job and great blog Bobbi. :-)
You did awesome! Congrats! 5 miles uphill sounds intense, amazing pace!
That is so awesome girl! Grats on completing something so challenging! :)

Hi Bobbi, (sorry if you get this twice, but google did something weird the first time I tried) I'm not usually a commenter, rather a quiet lurker, but I wanted to thank you for sharing your story of the relay! Looks like it was sooo much fun and makes me even more excited for the Ragnar Relay I am doing in less than a month from New Haven to Boston!
