Finding Her Balance

I was thrilled when Lindsey over at Breathe Magazine asked me to be a blogger for their site. My blog over their is called, “Finding Her Balance”.The free magazine is distributed throughout the Southeast and Midatlantic states! Please head over and check out my post today, “A Start to a Healthy, Well-Balanced Life”.

I finally got a full 8 hours of much needed sleep last night!!! I woke up refreshed and hit the floor for a 20 minute session with Polly. I then knew exactly what I wanted for breakfast I had been thinking about fresh pineapple all week. I love how I get to be creative with Green Monsters it makes breakfast time a lot more fun!!!

In the mix:food 035

  • 1 c almond breeze
  • 1/4 c pumpkin
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • 5 chunks of mango
  • 1/2 c fresh pineapple
  • 3 cups of spinach
  • 1/2 scoop of whey protein

Wow this tasted amazing!! It was so creamy and it popped with tropical flavor!

Kauai Hawaii, Honeymoon 2007!

I wanted to show you all a sneak peak of our garden today, it is growing like crazy! One of the things we planted was spinach, and it isn’t looking like any spinach I have ever eaten!

Garden #1: Spinach, strawberries, watermelon, squash, and Bosco!

Here is our yellow squash coming up! You can see the spinach leave on the bottom right. I am going to take one to school and ask one of the teachers, she is so good with things like this!

Garden #2 our grape vine, tomatoes, peppers, and corn!

I can’t wait until they all start baring fruit! I would like to start eating the spinach right now, but it is fuzzy on the outside, I guess I could boil it??

Well folks today is the second to last day of SCHOOL!! We have a pool party all day so that means no lunch post, but I am sure I will have plenty to share at dinner! I am going to try and make smart choices at the party because I know that there will be a ton of junk food!!!

I wanted to take a second to answer a question from a reader that I thought you might all like!

Bobby,
Congrats on your completing your goals so far! Great job. I have a question for you that was triggered by your comment about eating fruit instead of ice cream triggered. How do you respond to people who make comments about not eating what everyone else is eating in social situations? I sometimes feel that I am offending people for not eating what they are eating at work or socially, kinda like I'm being snobish almost. Coworkers brough ice cream and popsicles to work recently and I politely passed but felt like I was being rude. I know I just need to get over it but was wondering how you've dealt with it.

My Answer: When I am at a party I don’t turn away from ALL the food, I just take a little bight of what I want(it’s all about balance). If people give me hassle, I just kind of ignore them because I know what’s best for ME! I am a food snob(in the best way) if their are choices at a party I go with the ones that work best for me! If the choices are both something I wouldn’t eat then I am just like you, I politely turn them down and IGNORE all comments!!! I never turn down anything when a person invites me over for dinner, I think that, that’s rude!

It’s not easy, but by now most of my coworkers and friends know my eating habits and feel encouraged to eat healthier themselves. STICK TO YOUR GUNS!

How do you respond to people who make comments about not eating what everyone else is eating in social situations?

P.S. Happy birthday to Jenna!

I've just learned to shrug it off. It used to really get to me...but then I made the comment "I'm not talking about you stuffing your face with 'x food here,' so why am I the topic of your conversation?" It may sound a little rude, but it gets tiresome...and I think it clicked with other people then, too.

/goes back into stalker mode.

Hey Bobbie,
Thanks for answering my question! I will take your advice and think of you when I just need to be strong and resist the urge to cave simply to appease others. Thanks! Loving your blog. It has really inspired me to make some changes in my lifestyle.

I eat dinner pretty early (5 or 6), so when my friends want to go out for a super late dinner/party (9-on) I either get something really light or just a drink and I've learned to just shrug the comments off because it is what works for me and I'm not going to eat another dinner just because of that!

I am extremely sensitive about people making comments...it actually makes me want to avoid those situations because of it! Crazy, I know. I'm trying to get better...but you're right - only we know what's best for ourselves. :-)

That is awesome about Breathe Magazine - congrats!!

great job on the Breath Mag! That's exciting!

It's harder to turn stuff down (for me) with family than anyone else. Food is love, right? They pretty much know how I eat and that I won't have a cookie every time they do, but it's still frustrating.

Mmm that's a yummy combo!

Your garden looks fabulous!

Congrats on the magazine!

I usually do fine with being healthy by contributing something healthy to the spread! Where I struggle is with office birthdays - people literally all stand around and serve the cake, pass it around, eat, and talk. If I want some I will take it, but it's usually not appealing and I will get a bunch of comments. I've tried to be fine with it but it's kindof annoying!!

as for comments, i "politely" remind them that what i'm eating helps me run wicked well (and bq last month). ive always wanted to say what Lindsey said but i dont have the nerve!

Great garden! I a dream of the one I will one day have. I love how the pup is posing in the photo! haha so cute

What a great blender you have! What is the brand? Your monster looks so smooth too so it must do an excellent job!

I remain cool in social situations and just say I do not want it. It generally works.
