Tuesday Feeding the Soul: The Art of Being Still

WOW I wasn’t expecting so many amazing comments from my last post. I knew that money was a hot topic, but I just didn’t know how hot it was. I loved everybody’s tips and questions, I will be doing another installment of “Life on a Budget” soon, to answer all your questions.

Also WELCOME new readers, I noticed there are a lot of new commenter's out there, I want to thank you for stopping by and leaving you words of wisdom!!!

Back to some FOOD! Sunday night Hubby and I were exhausted(well at least I was), after teaching AKB this weekend and my 14 mile run the last thing I wanted to do was make supper. In the spirit of saving money I looked in the fridge and decided to finally try and make a Frittata! I found a simple recipe online and then added in my OWN healthy twist.

Her Easy Bake Frittata the “healthy way”

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 eggs, 3 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons soy milk
  • 1/2 chopped small red onion
  • handful of fresh baby spinach
  • 2 Roma tomatoes chopped
  • 4 mushrooms chopped
  • handful of low fat cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro, divided
  • some pepper and salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Beat eggs and water with wire whisk in medium bowl. Stir in all veggies, the cheese and 2 tablespoons of the cilantro.
  2. Pour into greased 9-inch pie plate.
  3. Bake 30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Sprinkle with remaining cilantro.

MONDAY EATS

Yogi’s Cereal:  I did Yoga for Runners in the morning, followed by some delicious cereal. Kashi Heart to Heart, mixed with Zoe Granola Cranberry Current’s. Topped off with blueberries, boysenberries and a spoonful of Barney Butter.

I love starting my day off with Yoga, it helps me relax and prepare for the day, even though it is difficult at times.

DINNER

When I got home from teaching AKB last night, I didn’t want my normal bowl of Monday Dinner Cereal because I had for breakfast. So I made a bowl of Pumpkin OATS instead!

and then I passed out from the exhaustion of the day!

RISE AND SHINE 5:30AM WAKE UP CALL

It’s Tuesday morning and time to ROCK AND ROLL, well at least I am trying…lol…it has been extremely cold here in SO CAL, currently it is 27 degrees where I live. It rained all weekend, here is a picture of Hubby’s work he works about 30 minutes north of us.

Needless to say he is working from home today. I woke up early so I could get pumped to go out for my run, it is so HARD for me to run in this weather. I think I am going to do my Jillian’s 30 shred video instead and do my run at the gym this evening:) I know I hate running on the treadmill, but it’s an easy 4 miles so I think I will be ok.

REPORT: Sexy Six Pack Challenge

It’s not over yet but I must say, it has definitely pushed me this week. Not to mention (I don’t say this to be vein) but yesterday I got three compliments at the gym and at work about how toned I am looking. One girl even said that I look SOLID!!! WOW what a compliment. I guess it’s from all the combination of exercise I have been doing, not to mention eating well.

TIME TO FEED THE SOUL: The Art of Being Still

Let’s talk about stillness, shall we. This week to feed your soul, I wanted to talk about the ART of being STILL. I am not sure if I have talked about this yet on my blog, so if I have please pardon me for the repeat. Being still is a true art form. It is when a person finds stillness within them, to let go of all distractions and stresses that are surrounding them. HA! This is hard. My mind goes a million miles a minute, and rarely takes a second to stop and rest, but I NEED it!

For me being still means complete relaxation, burning some candles and resting next to the fireplace without a BOOK, COMPUTER, JUST NOTHING! Me and my empty thoughts. Practicing stillness is so very important for our body, mind, and souls. We get so wrapped up in our to do list, and our minds get on overdrive. Everyday we need to practice being still for at LEAST 15 minutes of our day. I know it’s hard, even for me (the busiest person in the world), but if I put my mind to it and just do it, I know I will be refreshed and rejuvenated throughout the entire day.

Do you have this art form down, or is it something you need to work on? How do you practice stillness?

WRAP UP

Alright folk me and Jillian have a hot date, gotta run. I have to run a bunch of errands before work today, hitting up the post office to send off some packages and then gotta put money in the bank. Hope this week you have gotten to reflect on the importance of LOVE and not just the HALLMARK HOLIDAY of Valentine’s Day.

P.S Today is the last day to get in your comments for the the Naturally Nutty Give-Away! Contest ends at midnight!

I practice stillness by meditating, I either do a guided meditation or a candle meditation.

I can't believe how cold it is there, who would have thought it would be warmer here in th dirty jerz vs. socal. Crazy!
I have yet to master the art of stillness, I rarely take the time out to mediate etc. That's something I need to work on.

Brrr - so cold up there in your neck of the woods. Stay warm my friend...curling up next to a warm fire with just your thoughts should do the trick. :) I definitely need to work on being still. I cannot sit down for more than 5 minutes at at time without getting up and adding something to my to-do list.

I just ordered the Jillian Shred DVD. Can't wait to try it - sounds short and intense...my kind of workout.

Lovely bowl of berry red lovin!

Oh, that Hello Love looks delicious! I got inspired by one of your oatmeal posts yesterday and tried pumpkin in my hot cereal this morning. So yummy!

I am terrible for finding time to relax and my mind is always racing. Definitely not good at the art of still, but maybe I should try more!

I can't believe it's so cold in southern california! I thought it was supposed to be warm and sunny there!

I think it's wonderful that you are able to practice stillness like that. The only time I am doing nothing is during mediation at yoga. I wish I could be more still!

I really need to put mediation back in my routine. With two children it has been hard to earn a quiet moment to myself.

My yoga practice on Thursday night was the only relief I could get.

Thanks for the great words of wisdom!

I need to practice this "stillness" thing. It might help me be less neurotic.

Yummy eats, lady!

Hi, I've been looking at a bunch of running blogs lately (who all are linked to each other, which is very cool), and I just wanted to say I like checking out your blog. What's crazy is our running times are very similiar!! My 5k PR is EXACTLY the same, 19:36...10k is 42 minutes. I'll keep checking back for sure. :)

Sincerely,
Amy S.

Yeah stillness and I are not friends. I had a therapist a while back who was BIG into meditation -- he went to a meditation retreat in New Mexico for a week. Anyways, he told me to meditate -- or just sit still and empty my head -- for 15 minutes each day. I could never make it past five minutes before I realized i was thinking about something off in a tangent. i finally gave up and gave up that therapist.

Anyways, me and stillness do not get along. Maybe i can try it again sometime, lol.

Its weird, I am the most patient person in the word, but my art of being still sucks. I am always thinking a mile a minute, it seems when I run I zen out and focus in slow motion, zennnn
