Feeding Your Soul Tuesday: Time for Some R&R

This morning I woke up early. got some quiet time to read my bible, and the hit the gym for my morning track workout. It’s raining and cold so I had no other choice but to run on the treadmill. I did an easy couple of miles warm-up and then a lot of pretty intense 200’s!!! For a total of about 5 miles of running. I then did some AB work with the medicine ball. I love using the medicine ball for my AB workouts, I need to get one for the home.

Came home and decided to start the week off right with a bowl of protein and flax oats!

photo3 The mix:

½ c of oats
½ c vanilla almond milk
½ c H2O
scoop of banana Muscle Milk protein powder
Pinch of pumpkin spice
1/8 Honest Foods Plank bar
Handful of flax seed
Handful of blueberries
Sprinkle of brown sugar
tsp of vanilla
topped with a sprinkle of coconut

*and a spoonful of flax nut butter from Naturally Nutty

We are all out of bananas I am hitting up the market after work today!

TUESDAY FEEDING YOUR SOUL, SOME R&R!

I think one of the best ways that you can FEED your soul, is to take some time away from the WORLD. Like going up to mountains, or sitting at the beach. If you don’t have either, you can always take a walk in the park. We all need that time to be renewed and refreshed. For me going to the mountains and sitting on the cabin porch right before the sun goes up helps me to be still and take in the beauty that is all around me. I haven’t done this in a long time. On most of my vacations I am jam packed with “doing” things. I know I talked about being still last week, but where is the best places to be still. A lot of you said your Yoga practice helps you to be still, but is this in your home or away from home?

I think real rest and relaxation comes from being away from your busy lifestyle all together. When was the last time you got away, for an hour, for a day, for a weekend. When was the last time you had real R&R?

Have a relaxing and restful Tuesday even if it’s only for an HOUR!

Yummy oats! Hope you get lots of R&R! Sometimes just a "mental health day" full of mindless activities helps me =) And yoga too of course!

I couldnt tell you the last time I just relaxed, but when I do, I love just sitting out on the porch and staring off into nothing. Completley content with whats happening and not worrying about anything, now THATS relaxing

Your post made me think and I'm not sure I've had true R&R recently. I usually find relaxation at my house, but even there I am constantly thinking of things I should be doing.

I am looking forward to warmer weather so that I can go relax with a day in Central Park or go upstate and hike at Bear Mountain in NY.

Love flax in oats! Great workout, I am impressed with the speedwork! I need to start incorporating speed workouts, any suggestions??

hi bobbi!! question-- when you do 200s on the treadmill do you stop in between, or keep running? and if you keep running what speed do you "recover" at? if i'm on the track i'll stop and then jog to recover but on the treadmill i don't like stopping but i think it takes away from how hard i work on the repeats. what is your favorite distance to do for repeats? i TRULY relax when i am back at home in my parents' house, for the holidays + vacations. it has been a little while!!!

Is it bad that I relax with the TV on? Should probably quit that, especially since the beach is right around the corner...

My spring break is coming up in a few weeks and I absolutely can't WAIT! Not sure what I'm going to do, but the hubs and I were planning a staycation as well, we'll probably go hiking at the Roosevelt park nearby, so that will be wonderful! BTW, I love you blog, I think this is my first time commenting. You are such a sweet girl! :) Super topic!

I am really in need of some R&R! I wish I could get to the beach! If only it weren't 20 degrees outside!

Thanks for this tip, Bobbi. It's so simple, but it makes so much sense, and I REALLY need it this week!

I know what you mean about Jillian's butt-kicking workouts! I have to admit, when I did one for the first time, I was thinking to myself "come on how hard can this be, she trains people who are obesely overweight, I can do 20 min of this" and I kid you not by the end of the 20 min, I was in pain! I just tried her 50 min. boost metabolism workout this weekend (have you tried it?). She is insane but so worth it!

I actually found the new Jillian workout on Comcast On Demand Exercise and Fitness Channel. It's called Boost Metabolism and its a 50 min. circut workout that incorporates a kickboxing circut, a calasetics circut and then abs and then you repeat the 3 circuts. I really enjoyed it but it was definitely a challenge!

Great job on your speed run! As for R&R I love being outside. I always know when I need it because I stare longingly at the mountains on my way to town. I love going to the lake and hanging out on the boat.
The Jillian Michaels shred dvd is hard, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks so! It's great to have such a good workout in 20 minutes.
